ABC Pro Rodeo Sweethearts
The ABC Rodeo Sweethearts was founded in 2003 for the purpose of encouraging the duty of community service among young women.

As an ABC Rodeo Sweetheart, you'll wear the 2012 Sweetheart custom shirt & Sweetheart Sash. You'll be asked to give 20 hours of community service around the time of the Annual ABC Rodeo. Your efforts will be reported to your school for permanent record as a community service project. The group is limited to 20 girls (ages 16-18 & attending high school.) If more than 20 girls apply, resumes & interviews may be required for a selection process.

Applications are in Mrs. Johnson's office.

The ABC Rodeo Sweethearts, as sponsored by the Lubbock Downtown Chapter of the American Business Clubs (AMBUCS), will assist in fundraising efforts and community service actions. Projects include the ABC Rodeo, which benefits the Boys and Girls Clubs of Lubbock, in addition to other charitable entities as named by the Lubbock Downtown AMBUCS.

This is a great activity for job applications, college resumes, NHS requirements, etc.
An orientation meeting will be held Thursday, January 19th, at 5:30 p.m. at the Wilson Branch of the Lubbock Boys and Girls Club.

ABC PRO RODEO 2012 Sweethearts
Are you interested in community service for the 2012 ABC Rodeo? Girls are encouraged to apply to assist AMBUCS with fundraising efforts and community service actions for the ABC Pro Rodeo.
An informational meeting will be Thursday night at 5:30 at the Wilson Branch of the Lubbock Boys and Girls Club.

Goodwill Ambassador Program
The City of Lubbock, along with surrounding area school districts, is co-sponsoring an exchange program for 7th, 8th and 9th grade students to Musashino, Japan (the City of Lubbock’s sister city). All students submitting a completed application by the determined deadline for 2012 will receive an interview. A panel of three City employees will interview all applicants and score students on their interview and application. Selection criteria will consider the following: quality of application, grade point average, three letters of recommendation, essay, interview, ability to effectively communicate, and interpersonal skills.

The selected Jr. Ambassadors are responsible for funding the following expenses: airfare (Estimated $1800), passport (Estimated $135), medical insurance and spending money (Estimated $400). Estimated expense if $2335.00.

The following expenses are covered through the Jr. Ambassador Program: meals, ground transportation in destination, recreational activities, and hotel accommodations.

Jr. Ambassadors will host fundraisers throughout the spring to raise spending money for their trip. All Jr. Ambassadors are required to participate in the scheduled fundraisers.

Applications and more brochures are available in Mrs. Johnson's office and include such things as what will be expected of chosen students and their parents, talent show requirements, and how travel will be arranged. 2010 Nestle Very Best in Youth Award
Nestle is looking for young people (ages 13-18) to honor who have given back to their community, have done well academically, and have demonstrated the potential to lead others.

Winners of this award receive lots of fabulous prizes, including $1,000 to donate to the charity of their choice; an all-expense paid trip for them and a parent to attend the awards ceremony in Los Angelas, CA on July 23, 2011, and they will be featured in the Nestle Very Best in Youth publication.

2010 Prudential Spirit Community Award
If you've made a difference through volunteering over the past year, you could win $1,000 and a fabulous trip to Washing, D.C. next May by applying for a Prudential Spirit of Community Award!

This unique programs helps to recognize students who have distinguished themselves through volunteer work. Students have the chance to win state and national awards. If you've made a difference by volunteering in your community over the past year, you could win $1,000 and a fabulous trip to Washington, D.C. next May.

Once you have completed your online application, go to "Certification" page to either email certification instructions to your certifier, or to print them out and hand-deliver them. Your certifier can be your school principal.

Print out the signature page, sign it, have a parent or guardian sign it, and then submit it by November 1.

TTUHSC Summer Teen Volunteer Program
TTUHSC SUMMER TEEN VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine is looking for student volunteers this summer. Teen volunteers work two or more 3-4 hour shifts June 4 – July 31, 2008 Monday through Friday in clinics and support areas at the Health Sciences Center located at Indiana and 4th Street. The minimum age is 14 years old by June 1st.
TTHSC is looking for clinic assistants who greet patients, run errands, pick up records, escort patients to x-ray and labs and filing. They also need clerical assistants to work in the office, and greeters to welcome people, answer questions, and do problem solving in the main lobby.
Students need to get an application and then call for an interview before May 23rd since positions are limited. Interested students should contact Jean Bardy, Director of Volunteer Services, at 743-2959 or email jean.bardy@ttuhsc.edu or visit room 1B097 in the Health Sciences Center as soon as possible.
