September
After evaluating your choice of schools, contact colleges for admission and financial aid applications.
October
Decide which schools you’d like to apply to and arrange to have your transcripts sent to prospective schools.
Secure recommendations from teachers, employers, or other adults.
November
Find out your schools’ application deadlines, and be sure your information is submitted on time.
Schedule campus visits and admission interviews.
December
Submit your housing application and keep an eye on scholarship deadlines.
January
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and attend financial aid nights to learn more about financing college.
Check TSI status and register for the THEA unless exempted.
February
Get an updated “7th semester” transcript if your schools require them.
March
In the next couple of months, you’ll receive admissions decisions. Decide if you need to visit or revisit the schools that accepted you to make your decision.
Verify the accuracy of your Student Aid Report (SAR). You should receive this about four weeks after submitting the FAFSA.
April
It’s time to make the final decision. Compare the financial aid awards from different schools to help you choose. If your financial aid package if not enough to cover your costs, consider private loans.
May
Make sure your final transcripts are sent to the college you will attend.
Be sure you have turned in all your scholarships to Mrs. Johnson so that they will be called out at graduation.
Relax. The hard part is behind you (at least in applying to college!). Enjoy the last few weeks of high school!
Summer
Be aware of freshman orientation dates. If you miss your orientation, you may not be able to register for classes until you attend.
“To Do” Checklist

www.applytexas.org , or your school’s
application.
_____5. Schedule or plan campus visits.
_____6. Submit your housing application.
_____7. Begin completing scholarship applications at the schools you are interested in
attending.
_____8. Begin completing the FAFSA.
_____9. Attend SHS’s Financial Aid night on February 8th and complete your FAFSA.
____10. Check your TSI status and register for the THEA if needed.
____11. Send an updated transcript if required.
____12. Wait on admission/financial aid decisions and make your final decision.
____13. Turn in all scholarships to the office so that they will be read at graduation.
____14. Have your final transcript sent to the college/university you are attending. If
you have taken dual credit courses you will also need to request a transcript
from SPC be sent.
