New Century Leadership |
New Century Leadership is a program modeled after Leadership Lubbock that is designed to teach Lubbock area youth about the importance of personal and community responsibility.
Students apply at the end of their sophomore year and actually participate in the program during their junior year.
The purpose of the program is to organize a diverse, representative group of Lubbock area youth to participate in a curriculum focused on developing leadership skills and qualities, as well as an understanding and awareness of personal and community responsibility.
Members of Leadership Lubbock will work with the students and attempt to provide them with basic tools, resources, and
action plans on how to respond to community concerns.
Interested sophomores need to pick up an application in the counselor's office and these will be due on Thursday, April 28th.

Handout for Students (2011) |
New Century Leadership
New Century Leadership is an exciting eight-month Lubbock Chamber of Commerce program designed to support emerging young leaders from different backgrounds and school experiences. The NCL class meets one full day each month from September to April. Students will be excused from school in order to attend the class, and will be responsible for arrangements with their teachers to make up missed work. Students selected for the program are expected to attend and participate in all NCL activities. Only 35 students are selected for this program, so students who miss 3 class days during the program will be asked to leave the program. The NCL class coincides with the school day, so students will be back to campus for after school activities or necessary bus transportation.
Students interested in the New Century Leadership class should:
* have a spark of leadership potential that may or may not already be developed
* exhibit energy and enthusiasm
* represent cultural and ethnic diversity
* be dependable and committed
* be in good academic standing
* be a combination of traditional and non-traditional leaders
Applications are due on Thursday, April 28th. It is possible that more than one student from SHS will be chosen to participate during the 2011-12 school year. I encourage you to apply! This is a great opportunity to develop your leadership skills, gain new experiences, meet new people, and better understand community issues.
