Apply Texas!

The Texas Common Application was created to help make applying to a Texas institution easier. You are strongly encouraged to apply online at www.applytexas.org. Applications are usually accepted beginning Sept. 1 and decisions are often made on a rolling basis. It is to a student’s advantage to apply early, especially to Texas A&M, the University of Texas, Texas Tech, and the larger private universities.

You will be able to check online for the application deadlines. Remember that scholarship deadlines at various colleges are earlier than application deadlines, but you must have applied for admission in order to be considered for scholarships. Be sure and check for scholarship deadlines and have your application file completed before that date!

Once you have completed your application and submitted, let me know so that I can send your transcript.

Career Expo at Civic Center Oct. 26th

South Plains Tech Prep will again host the Career Expo on Tuesday, October 26th, from 8:30 - 1:00 p.m. at the Lubbock Civic Center. Over 600 businesses and college representatives will fill the Civic Center Exhibit Hall and concourse with interactive displays, games, group presentations, prizes, and lots of information.

The Career Expo also provides numerous breakout sessions for students, including "Reality Check" to help students understand how to budget, the importance of higher education for their finances, and the obstacles that most people face with daily living expenses.

The P-20 Closing the Gaps Council will host "Minute to Win It" with interactive games to help students understand the college admissions process.

The Expo is a great way for students to network with our regional businesses and colleges, and get a jump on choosing a career.

There will also be a guest speaker for the students, E.J. Carrion. Students attending his insightful program will immediately see INSTANT CHANGE in their lives and will be light-years ahead of their peers. Students will learn the secrets to not only maximize their education but how to begin a journey toward success. Mr. Carrion will speak at 9:30 and 11:00.

SHS is planning to take every senior to the Expo.
