2011 MISS TEXAS TEEN USA PAGEANT
The 2011 PAGEANT will be held in Houston, Texas on November 26-28, 2010, the Friday, Saturday and Sunday following Thanksgiving.

Registration for the Pageant is officially open!

Entrants must be single, never married nor have given birth to a child, a United States citizen and at least a six-month resident of Texas. They must also be at least 14 years of age and under 19 years of age to qualify.

Each entrant will be judged in three categories consisting of Personal Interviews, Swimsuit, and Evening Gown. Performing talent is NOT a requirement.

The winner of the Pageant will embark on a journey that will include receiving a fabulous prize package, including cash, wardrobe, travel, personal appearances, and a $45,600 scholarship to Lindenwood University in St. Louis, Missouri. The four runners-up and semi-finalists all receive scholarships totaling over $450,000.

SPEC Teen Video Contest
In conjunction with Texas Co-op Power magazine, South Plains Electric Co-op will begin accepting videos for the 2010 "Co-op Teens Power Texas" video contest on Monday, February 8, through Friday, April 9.

"Co-op Teens Power Texas" is a statewide competition open to high school students residing with a parent or legal guardian in a household served by an electric cooperative. Participating students, either working alone or in a group, will create a one- to - three minute video providing information about a developing area of renewable energy.

The first-place winner will receive $1,500. The second place video will receive $500. Four runners-up will each receive $250 for exemplary achievement in one of the four juding categories: Creativity, Educational Value, Youth Appeal, and Technical Quality.

ACT Poster Contest
ACT wants to encourage students to tap into their creativity and possibly qualify for a scholarship--through the national ACT Poster Concept Contest.
Students can enter the contest by designing a poster that encourages other students to attend college and to take the ACT® as their college entrance exam. We will use the winning design concept to produce the 2010-2011 ACT test date information poster we distribute to high schools nationwide.
The Contest is open to high school students who are residents of any one of the 50 United States and who are eligible and applying for 2010 or 2011 admission to a two-year or four-year college in the United States. (Juniors and Seniors only)
The first place winner will receive a $5,000 nonrenewable scholarship to his or her college of choice. Second and third place winners will receive $2,500 and $1,000 scholarships respectively.
The Official Entry Form and poster must be postmarked on or between October 19, 2009, and January 30, 2010. The Poster Concept Contest winners will be announced in March 2010 on the ACT website.

The Christophers' Annual Poster Contest
Students in Grades 9 through 12 are invited to interpret our theme "You Can Make a Difference" in an original poster. The Christophers is a nonprofit organization founded in 1945. They use media to spread two basic ideas: "There's nobody like you, and you can make a difference."

Barbara Jordan Historical Essay Contest
The focus of this historical essay project is to research and write about the rich and diverse contributions of African Americans in Texas. Conducted as a statewide competition, high school students research and write history about the influence and contributions of African Americans in their own communities.

Essays are judged in ten geographical regions, resulting in 30 essays selected for the State competition. The top three essay winners receive $2,500 for the first place essay; $1,500 for the second place essay; and $1,000 for the third place essay.

The theme: "African Americans in Texas: Past and Present"

Deadline: All essays must be postmarked no later than Monday, Feb. 1, 2010.

Kohl's Kids Who Care
Each year, Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program rewards kids ages 6 to 18 for their good deeds. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the program, and over 11,000 kids have been recognized and awarded more than $2.2 million in scholarships and prizes. This year Kohl's plans to recognize an additional 2,100 kids with prizes ranging from $50 Kohl's gift cards to a total of $10,000 in scholarships.

Career Poetry & Poster Contest
The Texas Career Development Association is inviting you to participate in this year's 2009-2010 NCDA Poetry & Poster Contest. If your services as a Counselor touch on career related issues you may want to have your campus participate in the contest. 2009-2010 National Career Development Poetry/Poster Contest
The Texas Career Development Association will be promoting the 2009-2010 National Career Development Poetry/Poster Contest during the month of November. This year the theme is:
"Bridges to a Brighter Future:
Inspire Your Career - Empower Your Lives!"
The age Divisions for the contest go from Kindergarten through Open Adult. The contest is a creative way to have students of all ages think about their careers. The Poetry can be in any acceptable Poetic form. The Posters are done in two categories: Category 1 is the standard use of pencil, poster paints, magic marker, acrylics, or oil. Category 2 is the use of photos, clipart, graphic art software, collage, or mixed media. The format size of the poetry and posters are 8 ˝ x 11. Local Building contests should be completed by November 18th. Here in Texas the local winners 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place status should be sent on to the State contest with a post marked date no later than December 4th. Send them for Texas state judging to:
