I love teaching Social Studies courses because they are about people. Because of this, social studies courses help students understand their world, which should in turn, cause them to be good citizens. The Social Studies courses required for all high school students in Texas include: World Geography, World History, U.S. History, U.S. Government, and Free Enterprise. For the 2011-2012 school year, I will teach three sections of Recommended World Geography. |

At Shallowater High School, World Geography is a required Social Studies course for ninth-graders. The course is designed to teach and reteach broad geographical concepts so that students will better understand the world they live in today. In addition to geography concepts, all eight of the Social Studies strands will be emphasized:
history government, economics, geography, culture, social, technolgoy, citizenship, and skills.
Students who understand these strands are more likely to be successful in other required social studies courses as well as in society.
